This weekend, pack a picnic and head outdoors with children, family and friends as part of iNaturalist's Great Southern Bioblitz running from October 28-31. The Great Southern BioBlitz is a global citizen science program that engages the public in biodiversity across the Southern Hemisphere in Spring. It uses the easy-to-use free platform iNaturalist to record nature-based observations.
To be part of the competition running from the start of the Bioblitz until 4pm on Saturday 29th simply:
• Download the iNaturalist app, sign up or log in • Click 'projects' at bottom of screen and search for 'Belair Bush Buddies Great Southern Bioblitz 2022' and join in the observations. • Make sure geoprivacy in observation is OPEN" • Get as many observations as you can before our competition closes!
You can be in the running for prizes just for observing, including a Cleland Wildlife Park Family Pass (valued at $180), an Annual Pass to Belair National Park, a copy of Marianne Broug's gorgeous limited run photographic book, The Beauty and Biodiversity of Belair National Park. (Prizes will be awarded for the most observations and most interesting observation of the day)
To be eligible for prizes meet us at the Main Pavilion, Main Oval Belair National Park at 4pm where we can share people's observations on a big screen and announce the winners!
For anyone wanting to learn more prior to bio-blitzing, rendezvous at 10am Saturday morning with members of Belair Friends Group at the Main Pavilion, Main Oval Belair National Park, for a short and sharp introduction and training session.
Don't forget to fully charge your mobile so it lasts through your observations!
(Alternatively an easy to follow short tutorial on iNaturalist is available at https://youtu.be/kUyFBeTz1zM )
